Logline

Jonathan Reith, a volunteer medic, risks everything by leaving the safety of an American suburb to save lives in the battle against ISIL.

Synopsis

In June of 2014, Mosul fell to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) control declaring it part of their caliphate. Now, Iraq is in the midst of a brutal war to expel ISIL that has united sectarian and tribal groups in Iraq to fight together against this common enemy. In 2016 that war reached its pinnacle and it was within this context that a volunteer medic saved his money and went to the front lines to help save lives. All the while, wearing a helmet camera.

His gut wrenching helmet camera footage documents the daily confrontation of life-and-death scenarios while his revealing video diaries expose the turbulence in the soul of a man reconciling the realities of war.
